Physiotherapy

Paediatric physiotherapists at Ovspring provides assessment and therapeutic management of physically and multiple disabled children up to 16 years and those with physical and learning disabilities over 16 years.

Those who may benefit from physiotherapy include but not limited to:

  • Babies / children with delay in gross motor skills which may be affecting their developmental progress.
  • Babies / children with abnormal muscle tone and / or patterns of movement.
  • Babies / children in pre or post operative care and management

The Physiotherapist also provides advice and recommendations for specialist equipment or orthotics which will assist in achieving either postural control / management or mobility. The physiotherapist will assess and advise on appropriate orthotics, walking aids, standing frames and other equipment which may ease management or improve function, and arrange for it to be provided.

Individualised treatment plans are provided and taught to parents / carers for them to carry out at home or school. These are reviewed and updated as necessary. Some of the modalities used could include:

  • active exercise

  • passive exercise / stretching

  • physiotherapy ball

  • positioning – using equipment and orthotics where necessary

  • hydrotherapy (at home or at a partner facility)

Parents / carers are encouraged to incorporate the therapeutic advice into daily living activities wherever possible. The physiotherapist works as part of the Ovspring multidisciplinary team around the children.
