An assessment or evaluation may be requested by school or other agencies, but ultimately it is the child’s family who initiates and participates in the evaluation process. Assessments provide a thorough understanding of your child's developmental status and sets a baseline from which professionals can work to design a suitable intervention plan.
Assessments can be scheduled by one discipline or with an inter-disciplinary team. At Ovspring Developmental Clinic, our aim is to look at the whole child and determine which services will be most effective to help the child develop and function in daily life. The assessment process begins with an intake or intial consultation, which involves taking a detailed history from parents and gathering supporting information if any (e.g., school reports, psychological assessment, audiogram). This is followed by assessing the child via standardised measures and non-standardised clinical observations. Assessment can usually takes from one to three visits.
Our professionals (Medical Practitioners, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists) are trained to evaluate your child through standardised assessments and observations to establish both measurable and subjective information. Our team members are trained to provide an overall assessment of developmental delays and disabilities, as well as specialized evaluations.
If your child has had a recent evaluation from a medical practitioner, occupational, physical or speech-language pathologist, it can be reviewed to see whether there is a need for further testing. Ovspring Developmental Clinic also provides periodic progress evaluations and second opinions.
